How it works

Science-based and built around you

Conventional medicine is excellent for acute care, but often struggles with long-term conditions such as autoimmune disease. Functional medicine asks why the problem started and what’s keeping it going.

It’s how medical herbalists have always worked, now combined with the best of modern diagnostics.

Test

Blood, stool, saliva and hormone tests, far more detailed than standard NHS panels.

Understand

A thorough case history covering lifestyle, environment and genetics.

Treat

Herbal medicine, diet, exercise and supplements only where needed.

Coach

Personalised health coaching to help changes stick.

The functional medicine tree

Treating the roots, not just the branches

Conventional medicine usually starts at the top of the tree, with a diagnosis for each organ system. Functional medicine works from the ground up.

The roots

Your lifestyle and environment: sleep and relaxation, exercise, nutrition, stress and relationships.

The trunk

Your genes, life experiences and the triggers that set illness off, leading to imbalances in core systems such as digestion, energy, immunity, detoxification and hormones.

The branches

The signs, symptoms and diagnoses you notice, from gut problems to joint pain or fatigue.

By finding and correcting what’s happening at the roots and trunk, the symptoms in the branches can begin to settle.

An example

28 markers, not 3

A routine cholesterol check usually measures three markers: total cholesterol, HDL and LDL. To properly assess heart and metabolic risk, I typically test up to 28.

Private testing does cost more, but it gives a far clearer picture and a strong focus on prevention.

Laboratory testing

Tests I offer

Through leading UK laboratories including Genova Diagnostics, Regenerus Laboratories, Invivo and AONM. I’m a qualified phlebotomist with on-site facilities, and can arrange local blood draws if you’re consulting online. Reports on lab tests are £140 + VAT.
